Inaugural Cultural Festival to be held at VCU Medical Center
The event aims to celebrate and deepen relationships with the diverse
communities served by the health system.

To celebrate the diverse communities served by VCU Health, the health system is inviting the public to attend its first Cultural Festival on Saturday, June 15 at VCU Medical Center.
This family-friendly event is free and features fun for all ages, with balloon art, face painting, free books for kids, live music, and performances. Organizers say there will be free food tickets to use at food trucks for the first 200 attendees.
The festival will kick off with a presentation highlighting the history of the health system. Free blood pressure and glucose screenings will also be offered to attendees for free.
“During the festival, we aim to educate the community about our organization’s history, conversate through health screenings and celebrate with cultural performances. These things position us to strengthen relationships across the academic campuses, the community and the commonwealth,” said Marcelle Davis, DSL, vice president of Inclusive Excellence for VCU Health System.
June is full of celebrations, as Juneteenth, Caribbean American Heritage and PRIDE are all observed during the month. Davis says this festival is just one way to recognize these observances and deepen our relationships with those served by the health system.
“The inaugural Cultural Festival will build on the foundation we laid in January with our MLK Community Walk and Celebration. As we celebrate Juneteenth, Caribbean American Heritage and PRIDE, we are excited to demonstrate why we are an employer, healthcare provider and educator of choice,” Davis said.
The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held on 12th Street between Broad and Marshall streets, across from the valet entrance of the VCU Medical Center Gateway building. Parking will be available for free in Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU’s pavilion parking deck. Those taking GRTC Pulse should use the VCU Medical Center bus stop.
